Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center to soon open doors

Posted: Updated:

For the past year construction of a new hospital in Aberdeen has been underway, and now the Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center is nearly complete.

More than 300 new jobs have been added at the new hospital.

Officials from the hospital tell KSFY the building is nearly complete and those new employees have been training with their new equipment for months.

"One of the very unique pieces of building this hospital has been that every department and every service is new within the hospital setting. One of the areas that we've really been focusing on is our emergency department services," Sanford Aberdeen COO, Jacqueline Strinden said.

The new center will offer a number of new services; including radiology, a new emergency department, cardiac catheterization lab and eight new beds for labor, delivery and recovery.

Thursday morning new employees were hard at work training for different scenarios in their new facility.

"We've actually had people that have been on our staff for months and months, starting last fall. As they came on to our staff, they actually spent a lot of their time working in Sioux Falls," Sanford Aberdeen CEO, Gordon Larson said.

During those months, the employees have received training and experience in Sioux Falls doing the same job they will perform here in Aberdeen.

Larson says the 113-thousand square foot facility was designed to benefit everyone from the doctors to families that rely on their services.

"We built the building to really provide patient care. And as you walk through the building, you'll see that the patient care areas are the important areas, not only for the patients, but for their families as well," Larson said.

He says it's that well-rounded treatment that will help Sanford Aberdeen succeed when the doors open in the coming weeks.

Sanford Aberdeen will be hosting an open-house and hospital viewing Tuesday June 26th.

The public is invited.
