Correctional officer stabbed at State Penitentiary

A correctional officer is recovering after a stabbing at the State Penitentiary Thursday evening.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. in the Jameson Annex of the State Penitentiary. The officer was injured by an inmate during a cell entry done to keep the inmate from self harm.

The correctional officer was stabbed in the arm with a pen or pencil. He was treated at a Sioux Falls emergency room and was released.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
