A grass fire that was likely sparked by lightning strike burned about 100 acres in southwest Stanley County Saturday morning.
No structures were threatened and there were no injuries.
Fort Pierre Fire Chief Rick Cronin tells KCCR radio says the pilot of a crop spraying plane flying in the area 27 miles southwest of Fort Pierre noticed the blaze around 7 a.m.
Cronin says the fire was likely sparked by lightning in the area. The fire burned slowly overnight until it was noticed in the daylight.
About 10 firefighters joined nearby property owners in battling the blaze, as the hilly terrain made the firefighting a challenge.
Cronin says conditions in the rural areas have started to become drier.
