State of Emergency declared for Marshall after apartment fire

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton declared a State of Emergency for the City of Marshall after an apartment fire the displaced 21 people, mostly minors.

Governor Dayton issued the declaration on Saturday because there was a need to activate emergency resources in order to shelter the residents for the night.

The American Red Cross in Marshall says the apartment was not completely burned down, but suffered significant smoke and water damage.

The Red Cross is assisting and it says many of the people who lived in the apartment are staying at local motels until they can find a new permanent place to live.

The Red Cross says the displaced residents are low income families who hardly have anything with which to begin.
