After a close call with a distracted driver, a Tampa Bay inventor develops Screaming Banshee, a new motorcycle warning system, with the help of funding from Kickstarter.com and a grassroots social media campaign.
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) June 25, 2012
Peter Olt is an international motorcyclist with his own fair share of close calls over the years.
While riding through Tarpon Springs, Florida in July 2011, he narrowly escaped what could have been a serious accident due to a car abruptly entering his lane. At that point Peter made a decision to invent a system that would send a blast to other motorists when called for.
Having an electrical engineering background, Peter used his skills to create a system that would provide a loud raucous horn for those emergency situations while still having the option of giving someone a friendly toot with the stock horn.
His breakthrough solution is the first automatic loud horn and light warning system for motorcycles, scooters, cars, boats and snowmobiles.
In Irish and Scottish lore, a “banshee” is a female spirit who cries loudly to warn people of impending danger – and so the Screaming Banshee™ business was born.
The Screaming Banshee™ empowers riders (or drivers), with a warning system that integrates seamlessly so it can be used as a normal horn when pressed briefly. However, if he finds himself in a dangerous situation, he simply holds the horn button down for ¼ (or ½ second) and the Banshee Horn system kicks in - activating the 139 decibel air horn and pulsing the high beam lights. This gives the visibility he needs to avoid a life-threatening scenario. This is not just for motorcycles - many car owners have purchased systems for the same reasons.
Screaming Banshee, LLC was initially funded by the generous contributions from donors in the Kickstarter.com community. After posting his idea on the site in December 2011, the funding page was swamped with motorcyclists, hobbyists, and drivers who felt the Screaming Banshee was a much-needed tool for visibility and safety from today’s distracted drivers. By the end of the 90 day fundraising period, Screaming Banshee had raised nearly three-times what he was initially requesting.
Within the 6 months that followed, Screaming Banshee hired full-time staff to handle sales, marketing, and shipping - and is rapidly expanding globally with new sales reps and distributors to carry the product even further into new markets. Those interested in US or International distribution are encouraged to contact Screaming Banshee for more details.
From a near fatal accident to a thriving business, Screaming Banshee is a great example of how a great idea and an entrepreneurial spirit can still triumph in today’s stagnant economy.
