Update: Boil Order issued for part of western Sioux Falls

Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls Public Works issued a boil order for part of western Sioux Falls through Friday due to construction along Marion Road.

The boil order affects people living in the area just east of Marion Road from 35th Street to Thurman Drive.

The city alerted people living in the area near Marion Road in Sioux Falls about the boil order by putting notes on their doors.

The boil order is due to a water main construction project along Marion Road. The City is connecting a new water line with an old one. City Project Manager Dena Knutson says the boil order was issued to ensure safe drinking water while the lines are being connected. Knutson says there is no cause for alarm.

Trent Lubers, Sioux Falls Public Works, says the water line needs to be disinfected and tested for bacteria. Lubers says they will collect samples Thursday morning but the results will not be available until Friday.

Lubers says any time there is new infrastructure it is one of the precautionary measures to disinfect the line to ensure the drinking water is safe.
