Decades-old warhead found in Rapid City garage

Posted: Updated:

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A bomb disposal team from Ellsworth Air Force Base detonated an old rocket warhead that a Rapid City resident found in his garage.

Base spokesman Maj. Matthew Reese said the munition was live and had a fuse. It was disposed of at the city landfill Wednesday afternoon.

Reese says the resident found the warhead on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and brought it home about 30 years ago. He says a bomb and gun range used to be in the area.
