Monday night the Brandon City Council is taking a second look at whether to increase the fee for a liquor license for business owners.
The proposal will take the fee from the current $ 8,000 to $125,000. It's based on the city's population, the heated debate began last month.
The council approved the first reading to increase the license fee.
Supporters say the increase would generate more revenue, but people who disagree say a price that high doesn't make sense in a small town and would drive away small business.
The council goes over a second reading Monday.
If it passes, the license fee could go into effect as soon as the end of this month.
