RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Persistent hot and dry weather that is creating ideal conditions for wildfires is prompting some western South Dakota cities to call off their Fourth of July fireworks shows.
Rapid City, Lead and Custer all have canceled their fireworks shows. Belle Fourche and Sturgis are still planning their shows but have banned residents from shooting off their own fireworks.
Western South Dakota has seen numerous recent forest fires, including one that has burned about 6.5 square miles near Edgemont.
