Fireworks banned in Pennington County

Posted: Updated:

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Fireworks and open burning have been banned within Pennington County as the fire danger reaches an extreme level.

The Pennington County Board of Commissioners passed an emergency resolution Tuesday prohibiting fireworks and burning outside of any municipality in Pennington County.

Fireworks have already been banned in several communities in the county, including Rapid City, Wall, Keystone and Hill City.

The U.S. Forest Service and South Dakota Wildland Fire Suppression have banned open burning permits for campgrounds.

Fire crews have been busy battling several wildfires in the Black Hills area of western South Dakota.
