South Dakotan veteran awarded Purple Heart

Tuesday afternoon, a special honor for a man and his extraordinary service to the U.S.

Senator John Thune presented Major Robert Dickerson with a purple heart.

The medal was awarded for injuries he received during his time in Iraq in 2007.

Dickerson, an Army veteran, said he was humbled by the honor.

He says he always wanted to be a soldier, and if could go back, he would.
