A cell phone screen like this means frustration for its user. The town of Madison had a lot of these during the last four days.
"It's been a pain in the butt. I had a court hearing yesterday. I was supposed to testify, and I didn't know because I didn't have service," said Kathryn Jeratowski.
Last Friday, Madison's only cellular carrier, AT&T went down.
"They told me that they had a degraded tower, but nobody knew about any service issues," said Heather Lee.
Jeratowski went straight to the local AT&T office in search of a remedy.
"They didn't help me at all. They said to call the corporate office, and it's like I don't have a phone. How am I supposed to do that?"
She ended up discontinuing her AT&T service. She and friend Heather Lee agree having a land line as a safety net might be the best bet.
"Thank God I have a land line," said Lee. "There's a lot of people who don't."
