Sioux Falls man arrested after police standoff

Posted: Updated:

Police arrested a Sioux Falls man, following an early morning standoff.

Police say a man called 911 just before 2:30 Wednesday morning, saying his cousin was chasing him with a knife.  Officers responded and found the victim near the intersection of 13th Street and Highland Avenue.  He said his cousin, Charles Michael Taylor, 20, was chasing him.  Taylor had returned to the home in the 1800 block of East 13th Street.

When officers got to the home, they tried talking to Taylor.  They used the phone, calling out to him from the street, and the patrol car public address system, but there was no response.  Police activated the SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Unit in an attempt to get Taylor to surrender.

Taylor was taken into custody around 7:00 Wednesday morning without incident.  He is being held in the Minnehaha County Jail for one count of Aggravated Assault.
