Highway Patrol: "Operation Safe" a success on July 3

Posted: Updated:

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says its July 3 high-visibility "Operation Safe" campaign was a success.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says it issued 260 tickets and 779 warnings to motorists for various traffic violations. Troopers responded to two injury crashes and nine non-injury crashes. Troopers also assisted with 49 motorists stranded on the highway.

"The results from our July 3rd campaign show that our efforts are working to prevent speeding, encourage seatbelt use, and reduce alcohol-related crashes," Col. Craig Price said.

The effort was a part of "100 Days of heat" which is a high visibility effort by the Highway Patrol, the Office of Highway Safety and law enforcement agencies across the state. The summer-long campaign focuses on preventing drunken driving and speeding while encouraging seatbelt use.
