Fisher Grove Country Club to soon host grand re-opening

Posted: Updated:

Getting outside and playing a round of golf is a very popular past time for many in the Frankfort area.

But for members at the Fisher Grove Country Club playing a full 9 holes has been impossible for the past few years because of high water levels on the James River.

"Everybody kinda get frustrated when they can only play 8 holes and everybody wants to play 9 holes. So with 9 being out for two years now, we figured we had to do something," Fisher Grove Country Club Board Member, Brett Knox said.

The 9th hole is still out of commission.

Last fall, members of the country club decided to hold a fundraiser to create a new hole.

Kurt Permann was a major donor to the project.

"They said they needed money for maybe another course because 9 has always been flooding in recent years. So I decided I'm just gonna write out a check for it," Permann said.

Construction of the new 10th hole started last fall.

Golf course superintendent Chuck Halbert designed the new hole and helped construct it.

"It's very exciting. You know, It's gonna give us a lot of options. We can play this hole instead of numerous other holes in the course and still have 9," Halbert said.

Halbert says the new par 3 will be useful for both tournaments and the every day player.

For golfers like Brett Knox they say they can't wait to get out on the course and play a full round of golf.

"I'm pretty excited, I can't wait to shank a shot off on it," Knox said.

Halbert says once the 9th hole is useable, the course will have 10 holes which will give the country club more options for tournaments.

The country club plans to have a grand re-opening on Saturday July,14th.
