ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - A rural home about three miles north of Aberdeen has been destroyed by fire.
Aberdeen Rural Fire Department chief Derwin Kampa says owners Duey and Holly Hedge were not home at the time of the Monday evening fire and there were no injuries.
Neighbor Mike Keller says his wife saw the fire and reported it about 6:10 p.m. He estimated that the house with a three-stall garage was about six years old.
Kampa says the cause of the fire is not yet known.
Brown County Emergency Management director Scott Meints says the fire likely started in the garage, which was also destroyed by the flames.
Officials at the scene said that the Salvation Army is providing a short-term place for the family to stay.
