Sioux Falls might ban texting while driving

Posted: Updated:

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota's largest city is a step closer to banning texting while driving.

The Sioux Falls Public Services Committee has endorsed a proposed distracted driving ordinance that would ban texting, emailing, tweeting and Facebook use while driving. It now goes to the City Council.

City Councilwoman Sue Aguilar helped sponsor the ordinance. South Dakota law does not prohibit texting while driving, and Aguilar says she wants Sioux Falls to lead the charge.

Some drivers like Tashia Ross are skeptical. Ross says she thinks even if there is a ban on texting while driving, people will do it anyway.
