Huron: A brand new day

Posted: Updated:

KSFY is making its third stop on our Summer road trip. Thursday we are in Huron, visiting a town that's working toward a growing bright future.

Talk to people living in Huron, South Dakota and they'll tell you their city is a welcoming one. A city where people still stop to say thanks for coming. Where businesses stay open with a smile and a place they say is second to none to raise a family. Many say crime is relatively low in Huron and people genuinely care about each other.

Besides it being a family town it's a beautiful one as well. Huron is home to some gorgeous lakes and parks. If you head downtown you'll see how Huron tells its story through colorful murals. The murals are placed on the side of downtown buildings. They range in topics about Huron's history. Topics such as the South Dakota State Fair, pheasants, and settling on the prairie. Business owners say the murals and other improvements have really gotten the downtown area coming together. Many business owners we spoke with say the Chamber of Commerce has worked hard to get different owners together to keep store fronts looking great and flower pots lining the streets.

Huron is also home to the world's largest pheasant. It's a 28 foot 22 ton bird that welcomes guests into town.

Make sure you tune into KSFY News at 5:00 and 6:00 Thursday evening for our live broadcast from Huron.
