TYNDALL, S.D. (AP) - The southeastern South Dakota community of Tyndall is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its fire department on Saturday evening.
Tyndall Fire and Rescue member Josh Pesek says the department received its charter back in 1887 and was one of the first chartered fire departments in what is now South Dakota.
Pesek says the department will dedicate the monument erected at the fire hall, which is a Maltese cross with slabs of granite that features names of the town's firefighters.
The dedication will be followed with food and refreshments, demonstrations that include putting foam over a gas fire and tearing a car apart with the jaws of life and a street dance.
