Posted: Updated:

South Dakota Highway Patrol and McCook County Emergency Management are still on the look out for an inmate who escaped from a private prison-transport van near Spencer.

As of Monday morning there have been no new leads but law enforcement is staying alert.

Oscar Antonio Herrera-Menjivar, 31, escaped at about 2 a.m. Saturday during a stop at the Fuel Mart off I-90 near Spencer.

Herrera-Menjivar is originally from Mexico but was being taken from Florida to a facility in Nebraska.

He is 5'5'', 140 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities say he may be wearing an orange prison shirt or a blue one with shorts and black shoes.

He was convicted of a sexual assault involving a minor.

Law enforcement has discontinued a major search effort, however authorities on patrol are keeping an eye out.
