MARTY, S.D. (AP) - A bus service catering to residents of the lower part of Charles Mix County has received a $1 million Department of Transportation grant to upgrade its facility.
The grant will allow The Ihanktonwan Transit Facility to build a new bus garage. The transit program offers bus and van rides to residents living on the Yankton Indian Reservation.
About 100 to 150 people use the bus service each week. There are stops in Wagner, Lake Andes and Marty. Each one-way trip costs $1.
Sherry Hare, the administrative assistant for the program, says the new facility has been needed for many years.
