CANTON, S.D. (AP) - The former treasurer of the volunteer fire department in the southeast South Dakota city of Tea has pleaded guilty to aggravated grand theft.
Investigators say Denae Baustian embezzled more than $170,000 from the department. Authorities said in court on Tuesday that Baustian used the money to gamble.
Baustian faces up to 15 years in prison. Under terms of a plea agreement, prosecutors will seek a 12-year term. A judge must approve.
