Protesters outside the Charles Mix County Courthouse Tuesday are blaming the death of a 2-year-old Wagner girl partly on meth.
Taylor Cournoyer, 21, and Laurie Cournoyer, 28, are appearing in court to face charges connected to the death of RieLee Lovell on July 4. Both are charged with one count of felony abuse or cruelty to a minor and failure to notify law enforcement to the death of child.
Laurie told police at one point she had taken seven insomnia pills and used meth and pot with Taylor.
Protesters gathered outside the Charles Mix County Courthouse in Lake Andes. They were holding signs blaming meth abuse partly as the cause of Lovell's death. They sang outside the courthouse and held signs stating "Meth is killing our children." Another sign reads, "Obama where is our protection?"
