The defense for two people accused of failing to report the death of a Wagner toddler is calling for another separate investigation.
Taylor Cournoyer, 21, and Laurie Cournoyer, 28, appeared in a Charles Mix County Courtroom Tuesday on charges of failing to quickly report a child's death. They also are charged with abuse or cruelty to a minor.
Defense Attorney Scott Swier requested the motion for a separate investigation and it was approved on Tuesday. The defense will now hire a private investigator for $3,000 to look into the case.
A preliminary hearing is set for July 31 at 2 p.m. in Lake Andes. Both Cournoyers are being held on $500,000 bond.
