PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The Ellis Firearms Range in Minnehaha County will be getting a face lift thanks to $40,000 seized from drug dealers.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says the award from the Drug Control Fund will pay for improvements that include the addition of a 1,000 square foot building to be used for onsite training.
The building will be constructed at the Mike Durfee State Prison by inmates and moved to the range in the fall.
Sheriff Mike Milstead says the range near Ellis is used as a firearms training center for nearly every state, local and federal law enforcement agency serving the Sioux Falls area.
The site has more 40 years old worth of wear and tear, and officials say the much needed improvements will provide a safer range.
