PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - State leaders are expected to make a major announcement about criminal justice reform at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard, Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson, Senate Majority Leader Russell Olson and House Speaker Pro Tempore Brian Gosch will announce the new effort in conjunction with the Pew Center on States during the news conference at 3 p.m. at the State Capitol.
State officials said in March that the state's prison population had hit a record high with 3,191 adult male inmates and 439 adult female inmates.
