Sioux Falls man arrested after double robbery at Sunshine Food

Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls police arrested a man after a double robbery at Sunshine Food Store early Wednesday morning.

Police responded to a call at approximately 3:25 a.m. Wednesday at the Sunshine Food Store on South 2nd Avenue in Sioux Falls.

Two overnight bakers told police the suspect threw a rock and broke the locked front door to the store and made his way to the liquor aisle where he stole two bottles of liquor. One of the bakers confronted the suspect as he was leaving and he pushed the baker, dropping the liquor bottles and leaving the store.

The bakers said the man returned a short while later and stole two more bottles of liquor. Once again, a baker tried to stop the man until the suspect threw one of the bottles at the baker and left with one bottle in hand.

At 4:28 a.m., about an hour later, Sioux Falls police found CJ Eaglefeather Pigney near the intersection of 14th Street and 3rd Avenue. Police matched Pigney with the description the bakers provided.

Pigney was arrested for burglary, aggravated assault and strong armed robbery.
