Farmers asked not to irrigate near highways as Sturgis Rally approaches

The state is asking farmers to keep their irrigation systems away from South Dakota highways as the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally approaches.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation is asking farmers to keep their irrigations systems from spraying water onto the highways as a safety precaution.

The Department of Transportation says irrigation overspray can cause dangerous driving situations for motorists by creating slippery road surfaces--- especially for motorcyclists.

The Department of Transportation says with the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is approaching traffic on South Dakota roads will be much higher than normal for the next several weeks.
