AT&T's commitment to South Dakota

Posted: Updated:

Almost everyone who has one, seems to love their smart phone.

More and more people use mobile devices everyday to free themselves from their desktops and laptops, but slow Internet speeds can be annoying.

That extra web traffic means it's time for an upgrade.

At a press conference Wednesday, AT&T announced it's plans to increase mobile Internet capacity and provide better service throughout the state.

AT&T'S enhancements are part of a $50 million dollar commitment to South Dakota.

Our growing demand for Internet services puts a strain on existing mobile networks.

If you're looking for faster Internet speeds here in Sioux Falls, there isn't an app for that but AT&T does have an answer.

Hardmon Williams, Vice-President and General Manager, Minnesota and Northern Plains says "with the acceleration of smart phones and people using mobile data, we've got to add capacity to the network and finally bring 4G to Sioux Falls. I think it's a terrific opportunity for them to have faster speed than when we acquired the business."

4G service is the fourth generation of mobile standards.  With 4G, everything that you do on your phone or mobile device such as texting, surfing the web or emailing, will be three times faster.
