For years, Donald Moeller has filed appeal after appeal, trying to dodge the death penalty for his murder conviction.
22 years ago, Moeller raped then murdered 9-year-old Becky O'Connell of Sioux Falls.
Wednesday in a Minnehaha County courtroom, a judge told Moeller that his options have run out and that he will be executed this year, sometime between October 28th and November 3rd.
We were able to speak by phone to Tina Curl....Becky O'Connell's mother...and we asked her if she feels like Moeller have ever taken responsibility for killing her daughter. "No, he just knows that his appeals have run out and now he's trying to step up to the plate and act like a man."
Curl says she thinks of her daughter every day and also tells us that she plans on attending the execution, even if she has to walk from New York state...where she currently lives. We asked her if the news of Moeller's execution date being set offers her any sort of relief. Here's what she told us. "It certainly does feel good. He...as I said it's been a long time coming but it's well worth it."
While we know Moeller will be executed between October 28th and November 3rd...the exact date and time will be set by state penitentiary warden Doug Weber.
