Turner Co. Sheriff: Search scaled back for escaped sex offender in South Dakota
Law enforcement agencies in Turner County have scaled back the search for an at large sex offender who escaped during a prison transport near Dolton, South Dakota.
The Turner County Sheriff's Office says Wednesday night a National Guard helicopter flew over the search area near Dolton with a thermal camera to try and identify if anyone was still in the cornfield. The helicopter crew returned from their attempt empty-handed.

Several South Dakota law enforcement agencies and U.S. Marshals are searching for a sex offender who escaped during a prisoner transport on Saturday.
Oscar Herrera-Menjivar, 31, escaped at about 2 a.m. Saturday during a stop at the Fuel Mart off I-90 near Spencer. Herrera-Menjivar is originally from Mexico but was being taken from Florida to a facility in Nebraska. He was convicted of a sexual assault involving a minor in Omaha.
Enforcement agencies are looking for a Hispanic man wearing shorts and a gray T-shirt with an arrow and a motorcycle on it. Turner County Deputies say the man is not wearing shoes and has bandages on his feet.
The Turner County Sheriff's Office says people who see the suspect should contact law enforcement immediately.
Turner County Sheriff Byron Nogelmeier says just after 10 a.m. Wednesday morning a farmer actually spoke with Herrera-Menijvar in a non-confrontational incident.
Sheriff Nogelmeier says Herrera-Menjivar has been bold while on the lam. Nogelmeier says Herrera-Menjivar has been asking people for food and water and people have been helping him without knowing who he is.
Turner County Sheriff's deputies, Department of Criminal Investigation, Highway Patrol Troopers arrived to the Dolton area late Wednesday morning. Dozens of people were searching through the air and on the ground through cornfields in search of the suspect.
