BRITT, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a crop dusting plane that crashed Tuesday near Britt killing the pilot appears to have struck a power line before landing in a cornfield.
Hancock County Sheriff Scott Dodd says it looks like the plane was flying west when it struck a power line. He says it then dipped down into the field and mowed off corn plants, clipped a power pole then cart-wheeled to the crash site.
The pilot, 38-year-old John A. Larson of Buffalo Center was killed.
Family members and media were allowed onto the crash site Friday. The site was not available to access prior because of a chemical exposure threat.
The official investigation is under way by the Federal Aviation Administration and is not complete.
