The airshows early visitors get to see planes up close

Posted: Updated:

People who were trying to beat the heat and beat the crowds for that matter did so early Saturday morning.

Some were calling them "the early birds" and they were out way before the rush.

Crowds of people swarmed the South Dakota Air National Guard in Sioux Falls hours before the airshow even started.

"To get a good seat and see the planes up close. They get to see the planes inside and out and take the kids through them," Sara Staeffler said.

And Sara Staeffler's kids loved doing that.

"Seeing the airplanes and watching some of them fly," Nate Clark said.

Some planes did fly early, a few took off before the show's 11 o'clock start time.

It's was also something Sara enjoyed too.

"Do all the tricks and the ones with the smoke that go behind," Staeffler said.

The family came from Hardwick, Minnesota, which is a 45 minute drive from Sioux Falls, but they were up early because they didn't want to miss a thing.

"Just being out when it's decent out yet and beating the heat for the most part is nice," Staeffler said.

She suggests other families should take advantage of getting out here early.

"I would definitely say come early you get better seating, more time to see the planes and you don't have to park as far away and it's a lot nicer, not so crowded," Staeffler said.

There were other activities set up before the 11 o'clock start time and visitors can see the planes up close.
