Families pack Sioux Falls Airshow hours before show starts

Posted: Updated:

It's hours before the airshow even starts and crowds of people already are swarming the South Dakota Air National Guard in Sioux Falls and there's a reason why they're here so early.

"Then it's just gives my boys time to look at the planes, the younger one is interested in going into the military and it takes a long time to look at them and see everything before it gets going," Shane Hovey said.

And it's not just for Shane Hovey's kids to get an up close and personal look at the planes. Like many parents, Shane wants to make it easier on himself too.

"You get a lot closer parking and you don't have to deal with the hassle of trying to get out of here. Even if you have to pay you get a parking spot and it's a lot shorter distance to walk back," Hovey said.

And for people like Shane heading out early, they saw some action as planes took off before the show's 11:00 a.m. start time.

"I love it. I've been here the last two times they have it and I can't complain. It's in your backyard and you should take advantage of it," Darin Swanston said.

Darin Swanston was also an early bird and he says it's just easier.

"It's definitely easier to come out and avoid the traffic and go out and get close to the plane and beat the rush with the parking," Swanston said.

And some say if you don't come early, you lose out.

"It's going to be hard, they're going to have a long walk, long lines to get through especially at the check point," Hovey said.
