The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating a car-motorcycle accident that killed a Rapid City woman Tuesday evening.

The accident happened just before 7 p.m. Tuesday. According to the Department of Public Safety, Kimberley Ericks, 36, was a passenger on the motorcycle driven by Christopher Ericks, 38, of Rapid City. They were traveling southbound on Highway 16 and passing a 2007 Ford Escape driven by Louella Durfey, 64, of Big Timber, Montana.

The Department of Public Safety says Durfey attempted to change lanes to turn onto the Rockerville exit and made contact with the motorcycle. The motorcycle skidded through the off ramp and tumbled, and both riders were thrown.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Kimberley was wearing a helmet but died of injuries she received in the crash. Christopher was not wearing a helmet and received serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the car, Durfey, was uninjured.
