DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - Gamblers were doing less betting in Deadwood last June, but promoters say the revenue decline may have been caused by an early Memorial Day holiday.
Wagering during the month dropped about 5 percent. That represents $5 million less in betting.
Deadwood Gaming Association President Tom Nelson says the decline was disappointing but "somewhat anticipated" because the Memorial Day holiday came during May, instead of June.
Although June was down, Deadwood officials say betting during the first six months of the year is still higher than it was in 2011.
Gross gambling revenues in Deadwood during the first six months of the year are up more than 7 percent.
