Suspect in Saturday's fatal motorcycle crash faces manslaughter charge
A Sioux Falls man is now facing an additional 1st Degree Manslaughter charge for a fatal drinking and driving crash that killed the passenger of a motorcycle.
Police say Darren Boomgarden, 41, was driving drunk when his Jeep ran over two people on a motorcycle at the intersection of 26th Street and Grange Avenue. Police say Boomgarden's vehicle then dragged the motorcycle driver and the passenger.
Tracy Handel, 36, of Sioux Falls was the passenger who died later on Saturday. Sean Burns, 41, of Hartford was driving the motorcycle and is in serious condition.
Police say Boomgarden drove away from the scene but was found shortly later. Boomgarden is charged with Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Battery, Driving Under the Influence 2nd Offense, Felony Hit and Run, No Insurance and Open Container.
Minnehaha County State's Attorney Aaron McGowan added a 1st Degree Manslaughter Charge on Monday.
