South Dakota's Motorcycle Safety Program

Posted: Updated:

Motorcyclists are on the road more than ever and not just because it's summer. Many bikers have already headed out west for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which officially starts in six days.

And if you ride a bike, did you know the state started a motorcycle safety program about a year ago? We talked to the coordinator on the phone about it. Laura Snow says they want bikers to be safe and the website is there to keep bikers informed.

Snow says 10 bikers have died in crashes in South Dakota from the beginning of the year until now.

"It's a lot higher than last year at this time we had a total of 14 for the whole entire year for 2011," Laura Snow said.

The Motorcycle Safety Program has a website. It has some great resources including state laws, an interactive map and safety tips.
