South Dakota football players Kevin Robb and Tyler Starr have been named to the College Sporting News FCS 2012 Preseason All-America third-team, it was announced on Monday.
Robb, a junior kicker from Rapid City, S.D., was a first-team all-conference selection in 2011 after converting on 17-of-20 field goal attempts. He led the Coyotes with 85 points, and also converted 34-of-36 extra-point attempts. He led the Great West Conference in field goals per game at 1.55, a mark that was in the top 10 in the nation. Robb was a second-team all-conference selection in 2010 as well. He has 150 career points in two seasons as a Coyote.
Starr, a junior defensive end from Little Rock, Iowa, had an outstanding 2011 campaign, earning first-team all-conference honors. He had 14 sacks for 96 yards, ranking in the top 10 in the nation in sacks. He also had a team-best seven forced fumbles and led the team – and the conference – in tackles for loss with 19. Starr also had 42 tackles.
The Coyotes report for camp on Sunday, with their first official preseason practice set for Monday. South Dakota opens the 2012 season at Montana on Sept. 1.
