SALEM, S.D. (AP) - No one was hurt in a fire that destroyed a four-plex apartment building in the southeastern South Dakota city of Salem.
Authorities said two apartments in the single-level building were occupied, and both tenants were able to get out when the blaze broke out early Monday. One of them escaped through a back door and the other through a bedroom window. They're getting help from the Red Cross.
Firefighters were on the scene for 5 1/2 hours. The blaze was blamed on a cigarette in an outdoor ashtray.
