South Dakota's two largest cities are among the top 10 small cities in America for "Successful Aging"—Sioux Falls took the top spot.
According to the Milken Institute's "Best Cities for Successful Aging" index, Sioux Falls is the best small metro for aging because of its geriatric services, booming economy and high employment rate among seniors. Rapid City took the 10th spot.
The index measured and ranked the performances of 359 U.S. metropolitan areas and 259 smaller cities. According to the Milken Institute, the index examines 78 factors that most affect seniors' quality of life. The factors include health care, crime rates, weather, housing, job rates and transportation.
According to the Milken Institute, the surveys show the vast majority of seniors want to age in places reflecting their needs and how well cities meet those needs.
