South Dakota National Guard unit in cooking competition
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota Army National Guard unit based in Pierre is taking part in a national cooking competition.
The 152nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion recently won a regional contest against units from North Dakota and Oregon. It now will compete against a half dozen other units around the country in a contest that recognizes excellence in Army food service.
The competition judges the mess section in categories that include sanitation, food safety, water safety, presentation, portion size, temperature and taste.
The Pierre unit will be judged Oct. 14 at its armory in Pierre.
