One person dies after I-29 crash Sunday night

Posted: Updated:

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says one person died in a one-car crash on I-29 Sunday night.

The accident happened about two miles north of the Canton exit.

The highway patrol says Devlin D. Reid, 25, of St. Louis, was one of six occupants in a SUV driven by Samuel Cody Murphy, 23, of Oakview, Missouri.  An investigation indicates a tire blew out on the vehicle, and Murphy lost control. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled.

Reed was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Passengers, Michael C. Hayes, 25, and Keith E. Huggins, 22, both of St. Louis, were taken to a Sioux Falls hospital with injuries.  Information about their conditions is not being released. The other three occupants remained in the vehicle. Cody, Jason Keller, 30, and William Daugherty, 29, were not hurt.  They are both from Edgerton, Missouri.

No other cars were involved in the crash.

All six men in the SUV worked for a company in Platte City, Missouri and were traveling to Sioux Falls to work.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Lincoln County Sheriff's Office assisted.
