OMAHA, Neb. - Authorities said a sex offender who escaped from custody in South Dakota has returned to Omaha, but he's still on the run.
Oscar Antonio Menjivar-Herrera, 31, was last seen in the area of 10th and Martha streets in Omaha around 10 p.m. Sunday, according to the Metro Fugitive Task Force in Omaha.
Menjivar-Herrera, who is wanted on a first-degree charge of sexual assault of a child, was arrested in Florida on June 25.
On July 14, while being extradited to Nebraska, authorities said Menjivar-Herrera escaped from a transport van near Spencer after picking the locks on his handcuffs.
Investigators said they've learned that Menjivar-Herrera caught a ride on a freight train back to Omaha, and has been attempting to contact associates for food, water and a phone.
Investigators said Menjivar-Herrera was last seen wearing a black ball cap, a dark blue polo shirt, medium-tint blue jeans and dark tennis shoes. He was described as looking dehydrated and emaciated, as if he hasn't had access to food or water for some time.
Menjivar-Herrera is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 140 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
