The Sioux Falls Pheasants may not have a winning record, but they are setting a record-- in the stands.
The Pheasants (34-42) concluded a home stand Sunday with a crowd that propelled the organization past the 100,000 season attendance milestone. It is the first time the club has hit the mark since 2009.
According to the Pheasants organization, average attendance has been 2,511 fans per game through 40 openings, which is a 61 percent increase from the 2011 average. The team is also on track to see more than 123,000 total fans by the season's end.
"The fan support has been outstanding, and I know our corporate sponsors have been thrilled with the increase. We hope to finish strong and build some momentum into next season," said Pheasants CEO/President Tom Garrity.
The Pheasants have the chance to extend the mark with nine remaining home games in August, including two weekend series. The Pheasants return home for a three-game series with Fargo-Moorhead beginning Friday, August 10.
