(Brookings) The South Dakota State Jackrabbit football team hopes to carry the momentum from a strong finish last year into a new season. Thursday was Jacks media day in Brookings.
Head coach John Stiegelmeier has a lot of experience back from last year's team, which went 5-6 overall. Sophomore quarterback Austin Sumner played a big role in that strong finish.
The Jacks were picked sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll. They think they'll do better than that.
"You have to fine tune. All the pieces are there. All the plays are there. The coaches put us in a great situation. We just have to fin tune everything. Just make sure we're clicking on all cylinders." says sophmore quarterback Austin Sumner.
"We won our last four games last year. We came out, had a great spring, and this fall we're just trying to pick up where we left off and get better in every practice that we have. With the execution of the offense. Make everything smooth and game ready for when we step on that field against KU." says senior wide reciever Aaron Rollin.
"We need to run the ball. We need to rush the ball better on offense. We need to tackle better on defense. We need to eliminate negatives. The two negatives that I talked about earlier we need to eliminate the unnecessary penalties and we need to change the turnover ratio. When we do that we're going to be a much better football team." says Stiegelmeier.
The Jacks will kick off the new season at Big 12 Kansas on September 1st.
