We talked to a contestant about the process.

"It went really good. I had so much fun and I'm just so happy they came here and gave everyone the opportunity from being from small town it is hard to get to the bigger cities to try out. I really had fun," Mattie Zeer said.

Here's what an Idol producer says about the tour.

"It just depends who we find and like, we never know if its going to be 5 people or 500 people we never know. It's just like someone great sings for us and then we know and they move on," Norm Beeters said.

Mattie didn't make it but producers say she was close.

the next Idol stop is in Iowa City, Iowa.
