KSFY News headed out to the Sioux Empire Fair today.
The exposition tent has campaign booths for both Republican and Democratic party candidates.
KSFY News spoke with some of the volunteers and had some very interesting conversations with voters from both parties.
There had been many rumors about whom Romney might chose, but voter Jennifer Star is happy with Romney's choice, Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan.
"Paul has been such a forefront conservative movement, so I was real excited. I was obviously hoping for Thune, but Ryan is just wonderful. Very happy," Starr said.
South Dakota State House Republican candidate Jim Stalzer agrees.
"I was actually quite excited about it. I think this shows that Romney is serious about balancing the budget or at least reducing the deficit, and that Paul Ryan is the right guy for doing that," Stalzer said.
On the other side of the aisle at the fair, at the Democratic candidates booth, Paul Ryan and the budget were also a topic of conversation.
Rodney Gutzler said "I think it clearly defines the objectives of the Romney campaign and that's going to be closely married to the Paul Ryan budget."
Because of that, Gutzler says he's concerned about cuts to medicare or the Affordable Healthcare Act.
"I think what they really out to be concentrating on is making things that already exist, better," Gutzler said.
Whether you're a Republican or Democrat, Starr says there is one thing that makes Ryan a great candidate.
"I think that obviously the biggest concern of everybody now is the economy, so I think it's a great choice," Starr said.
