First-round leader Ryan Tjeerdsma of Slayton shot even-par 72 at Moccasin Creek Country Club in Aberdeen on Saturday to maintain his lead in the tournament at 3-under-par 141.
Brandon Sigmund of Mitchell, who was a semifinalist in the Men's Match Play in July and then won the Men's Mid-Amateur Championship two weeks later, fired a tournament-best 5-under-par 67 on Saturday to work his way into second place, just one stroke behind Tjeerdsma. Jim Entwisle of Huron and Match Play champion Ben Irlbeck are tied in third at 1-over-par 145.
The Men's Amateur Championship concludes on Sunday.
Patty Coddington of Sioux Falls shot 85 on Saturday to outlast Colette Quam of Aberdeen and win the Women's Senior Championship by one stroke. Coddington, who led by three after the first round, shot 166 for the tournament. This is Coddington's second consecutive Women's Senior Championship victory as well as her second SDGA title of the season after winning the Senior Husband-Wife at Arrowhead in June. Jeri Krsnak finished third at 174. Janet Boyum won the second flight at 182.
After two rounds of the Women's Amateur Championship, Kim Kaufman holds a commanding eight-stroke lead over Maggie Murphy. Kaufman followed up her first-round 70 with a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday for a two-day total of 3-under-par 141. Murphy is at 5-over-par 149 after shooting 74 in Saturday's round. Karla Murra trails by 11. The final round is tomorrow.
