Living on a rooftop, preparing for trip to Haiti

Posted: Updated:

One Sioux Falls group is headed to Haiti. But before they go, they're taking every minute of the day to prepare, literally.

The group, from Asbury Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, will travel to the third-world country for a mission trip, later this year.

This week begins their round-the-clock event where they spend all day and night on the church's rooftop. This will help them prepare their minds and bodies for the trip.

Participants say when going to a place like Haiti, it's important to be familiar with the challenges of living people there face everyday.

Living in a tent on a rooftop brings awareness to people in the community here at home.

"We want to go through what they go through because not a lot of people realize how poor they are," Dana LeVan said.

The group will spend 24 hours a day on the roof, in shifts, for the next seven days.
